Hello Nima! How did you find out about the apprenticeship at Deutsche Telekom and what distinguishes the job description of a Commercial specialist for Digitalisation management?

Nima: Telekom and the apprenticeship were recommended to me by a friend who had just finished it. What makes the job profile at Deutsche Telekom stand out in particular? These are above all the many possibilities.

Why did you choose this profession of all things?

Mina: In the beginning, I didn't apply specifically for this apprenticeship but submitted an “Open Application”. After my Online-Procedure, I was suggested suitable professions that fit well with my interests and strengths, including Commercial specialist for Digitalisation management. After intensive research, I decided to do this because I really liked the combination of IT and commercial tasks.

Nima: I had started studying economics before my apprenticeship and noticed that I lacked practical relevance. Since I wanted to combine business with IT, the apprenticeship Commercial specialist for Digitalisation management was a very good fit for me.

How did the first year of the apprenticeship go and what does your everyday work look like?

Nima: The first year of my apprenticeship went by very quickly. In my first of three company assignments, I learned to represent processes. In the process, I realized how efficient standardized programming interfaces are compared to bots and how much time is saved by automation. I particularly appreciate the helpful colleagues and the fact that you are treated as a full member of the team.

Mina: My first year of my apprenticeship also passed very quickly and was very instructive. I was able to get to know many people and gained insights into a wide variety of areas. For example, I was on three business trips, as my team works throughout Germany, and took part in the field service open day. Overall, the first year was super varied and valuable for my professional development.

How is the vocational school going?

Nima: I recognize many topics from vocational school from my work. In this way, what has been learned can be applied directly in the work.

Mina: I attend the vocational school twice a week. My apprenticeship combines commercial and IT subjects. The content is super versatile: including hardware basics, network technology, IT security and software development as well as customer consulting, project management, offer comparisons and data protection.

What tips do you have for future apprentices?

 Nima:

  • Take an active role in the department and ask for tasks.

  • Get help at school or in the company.

  • Have fun with the apprenticeship, because time flies quickly.

Mina:

  • Network with others to learn from experiences.

  • Be open to new tasks and challenges.

  • Get regular feedback to develop yourself.
