100 Days as a dual student I Telekom Careers Blog
100 days as a dual student at Deutsche Telekom
A dual study program offers an exciting combination of theory and practice. It provides many advantages such as practice-oriented learning, valuable work experience, and financial independence. But what does everyday life really look like? Lara, a dual student of Business Informatics at Telekom, shares her first 100 days.
Who are you and why did you choose Telekom?
Lara: I’m Lara, and I’m studying Business Informatics in a dual study program. I chose this combination because it connects business and technology, giving me many opportunities for the future. During my career orientation internship, I first became aware of the dual study program at Telekom. Talking to current dual students showed me how versatile the program is. In addition, Telekom, as a globally operating company, offers excellent prospects and development opportunities even after graduation.
How were your first 100 days at Telekom?
Lara: My start was great! I was warmly welcomed into the team right away and was able to work independently from the very beginning. I had expected just to “shadow” others at first, but I was quickly given my own tasks and responsibilities. I really liked that because it shows that trust is placed in you here.
The biggest adjustment was the new way of learning at university. I study at FOM. It’s very different from school because I have to work much more independently. But with the strong support of colleagues and my academic supervisors, I always feel well supported.
What has been your highlight during the first 100 days?
Lara: It’s more about many small highlights that make the overall experience so special. A great feeling is when my work gets praised - it shows appreciation and is very motivating.
What does your daily work look like and what tasks do you take on?
Lara: My week is divided into two blocks: three days I work at the company and two days I’m at university. At Telekom, I take on very diverse tasks: participating in different projects, such as designing promotional materials like flyers, joining calls on various topics, and analyzing and evaluating statistics. At university, I usually have two lectures per day, each lasting three hours. The mix of theory and practice is great because I can directly apply what I learn.
How well can you combine studying with work?
Lara: The balance is good since theory and practice complement each other perfectly. I can apply many things from university in my job and vice versa. Good time management is important - I use the weekends to review content or prepare for the upcoming week.
What tips do you have for future dual students?
Lara: The most important things are:
Ask questions! Instead of struggling too long with a problem, just ask.
Connect with fellow students. Sharing experiences helps a lot with mutual support.
Don’t stress too much. You’re here to learn, and no one expects you to know everything perfectly from the start.
Be open to new things. In a dual study program, you gain many different insights that will help you in the future.
Networking is key. Contacts at the company and at university can be very valuable later on.
A dual study program at Telekom offers many opportunities - if you’re interested in a varied program and want to combine theory with practice, it’s definitely worth considering!
