From starting out in IT to leading international teams

Instead of an internship, Sarah wanted to gain work experience right after her studies. She started at T-Systems with the Multimedia Messaging Service and, after gaining initial experience, moved to Deutsche Telekom. This was followed by leading an international development team — completely virtual and in English. Without a technical background, this was a challenge at first.

She says that in the beginning she wondered whether she could handle the responsibility at all, and that it was her manager who encouraged her to seize this opportunity. She quickly found ways to motivate her team, coordinate tasks, and develop solutions for complex situations.

Later, Sarah led a team in India, learning to manage cultural differences with sensitivity, introduce feedback processes, and empower employees to work autonomously. Today, she is considered an expert in virtual leadership, agile ways of working, and international collaboration.

Taking responsibility and making an impact

Today, Sarah leads a team of more than 20 colleagues, develops digital services, and optimizes processes. Her experience shows that anyone who stays curious at Telekom, takes on responsibility, and embraces new challenges can grow both professionally and personally. Sarah herself emphasizes that every career step offers new learning opportunities and creates real impact- for the team, the company, and one’s own development.

Looking back and even today, she has always been able to rely on the support of her managers and, of course, her team. The internal development opportunities at Telekom are incredibly diverse.
