Male allyship: Teaming up to bring more women into leadership

Inclusive leadership at Deutsche Telekom is everyone’s responsibility. That is why Product & Technology is supporting the Ten More In Leadership Summit in November as a Platinum Partner. The idea for this commitment came from a male executive in the unit - a strong sign of male allyship in action.

Leadership means shaping the future

For Thomas Weiler, Executive at Product & Technology, this is exactly what leadership is about. “For me, leadership does not mean managing the status quo, but shaping the future,” he says. Throughout his career, he has worked with many outstanding women - and has seen how much talent companies lose when opportunities are not distributed fairly. Janine Rensmann, CHRO DT Product & Technology, was immediately convinced by the initiative and decided to support the Platinum Partnership.


Different perspectives make teams stronger

Jonathan Abrahamson, Chief Product & Digital Officer at DT Product & Technology (P&T), observes that many women have to prove themselves much more on their way up, while men are often trusted with more from the beginning. For Jonathan, diversity is not only fair; it also leads to better decisions. The future of technology in particular needs teams with different experiences and perspectives.


Allyship is a contribution to better leadership

Thomas’ message to men is clear: male allyship is not something men do “for women.” It is a contribution to better leadership. In practice, this means questioning biases, recommending women for important roles and creating space for different voices. Equal opportunities do not take success away from anyone - they improve leadership for everyone.


“The future of technology needs every perspective, and shaping it is a team effort,” says Thomas. With the Summit, Product & Technology is sending a signal for an inclusive working world. Inclusive leadership succeeds when everyone contributes.
