Every year, there is exactly one new topic for our apprentices and dual students: the takeover. For some insider information, we played mouse and asked two junior employees a little.

Why they are #here and what Magenta experiences they can share with you, you can find out in this exciting interview.

Please introduce yourself briefly.

Clara: My name is Clara and I am a dual student (BI) at T-Wholesale in Bonn. I started my studies in October 2022, first working in sales management and later moving to T-Wholesale. I liked it there so much that I stayed. From January, I will be taken on as a technical product manager.

Younes: My name is Younes. Just like Clara, I started my studies at Deutsche Telekom in October 2022. My first assignment was in training management, then in offering management at Telekom Geschäftskunden GmbH. After that, I returned to my original department.

Why did you choose Business Informatics and Telekom?

Clara: I knew that I wanted to do a dual study program, but I was unsure about the direction. I was equally interested in technology and business, which is why I chose WI despite my lack of programming skills. Deutsche Telekom convinced me because it offers many opportunities.

Younes: After graduating from high school, the path was still open for me. Computer science suited me, but at the same time I was interested in economics. At an information event, I got to know WI and learned that Deutsche Telekom offers this dual course of study. That was a perfect fit – the content convinced me and Deutsche Telekom is considered a renowned employer.

What did you like most about the program?

Clara: Deutsche Telekom offers many opportunities to get to know new things. Every year I made exciting job visits to other departments and was able to think outside the box.

Younes: At first, my parents thought I just had to get coffee. The opposite was the case: From the very beginning, I had my own tasks, projects and responsibilities. The trust helped me to quickly feel like an integral part of the team.

Now your studies are coming to an end. Why did you want to stay and how did the process go?

Clara: I liked my job at T-Wholesale so much that I wanted to stay there. My BE approached me about a takeover and offered me a private posting. The process was straightforward: received the link, uploaded the CV, confirmation from the BE and the works council – done.

Younes: After two years at Deutsche Telekom, it was clear to me that I wanted to stay. Since there was no job in my department, I used the job board, set filters and applied for suitable positions – a total of six times. After the usual steps such as CV, letter of motivation and interviews, I received the acceptance. Immediately afterwards, I applied for a change of assignment in order to get to know the department before starting my career.

What tips do you have for junior employees before the takeover process?

Clara: Talk to your business expert or boss about a possible takeover at an early stage. Some students sought the conversation too late or did not know that there were private postings. Telekom training provides information, but personal initiative is important.

Younes: If you know that there is no job in your department, start looking around immediately. Build contacts, make job visits and take the chance to show departments your work. If the job board is open, apply specifically. Write to the contact persons, ask for a phone call and clarify your questions. This shows initiative and ensures that your name is known.

Would you recommend the dual study program at Deutsche Telekom to others?

Clara: Yes, definitely. The possibilities go far beyond the course content.

Younes: You get to know the world of work, gain valuable insights into corporate life and gain experience that no one can take away from you – no matter where you work later.
