How Telekom strengthens equal opportunities

An example of this is Haritharan Gunapalasingam, or “Harry” for short. Harry describes himself as one of those who started from the back. When he was six years old, his family fled the civil war in Sri Lanka and came to Germany. Without any knowledge of German, he started school. Later, he attended grammar school and began his apprenticeship at Telekom in Krefeld, where his talent was purposefully nurtured and his individual development actively supported. Through positions in Finance, Sales, Data Protection, and HR, he was able to gain diverse experience and continuously grow. Today, Harry is a true “Telekom veteran” in Bonn - an example of how we, as an employer, ensure that everyone can start successfully and how we actively support our employees in their further development.


That’s why Harry founded the “Social Movers” community with us. With this employee initiative, we are committed to creating a common “starting line” for everyone, regardless of their background or personal circumstances. Many people find it difficult to openly acknowledge their own social origins. This is exactly where the community comes in: it offers a safe space to share experiences and learn from one another. As Harry emphasizes: “Don’t see your background as a weakness, but as a strength. It makes you the person you are.” With our self-image as a responsible employer, we promote open exchange and the breaking down of barriers - diversity is a firmly established part of our corporate culture!
